Open control panel and a laptop on the bench during fault finding on a plant floor

Something has stopped.

A machine won't start, the screen is dead, a pump keeps tripping, an alarm won't clear. Ring 0401 434 787 and you'll be talking to an engineer, not a call centre. We're not an on-call service; we'll tell you straight when we can look at it.

What happens when you call

  1. On the phone. What stopped, what changed, what the screen says. A photo of the inside of the panel and of the alarm screen helps a lot. A fair share of faults are found here.
  2. Remote. If the site has remote access, or your IT can set it up, we look at the program and the signals live.
  3. On site. Across the Hunter, usually within a day or two. If production has stopped, say so. We bring the software for whatever controller is in the box.
  4. Afterwards. A short written note of what was found and what was changed, and a backup of the program if there wasn't one.

What helps before we arrive

  • What changed recently: a service, a storm, a new part, a power outage.
  • The make and model on the controller, or a photo of it.
  • Whether it stops the same way every time, or at random.
  • Whether the site has remote access, and who in your IT can set it up.

What we don't do

Licensed electrical repairs. If the fault is in the power circuit, the switchboard or the motor, your electrician does the repair and we work alongside them on the controls. We're happy to be the second call after them.

Brands we work on: Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Omron, Unitronics, and most things older. The technical detail is on Our work.

If it keeps happening: someone who knows the site

For sites in the Hunter that run automated equipment and don't have an automation person of their own. You get a named engineer who knows your site and a second as backup, remote access set up and documented once, a backup of every program taken at the start and after every change, a site file kept in your own storage, and a half-hour call each quarter on what failed and what to budget for.

TierHours a monthSuits
Remote4One or two machines, remote only, the odd change
Plant8A line or plant with regular small changes and faults
Site16Several systems, a monthly site visit inside the hours

Phone or remote response within four business hours; on site within two business days within the Hunter on the Plant and Site tiers. Unused hours roll over for three months. The hours are at our standard rate, no discount and no surcharge; what you're paying for is response and a known engineer. Six-month minimum, then monthly. Ask for the one-page offer with prices.

Two Newcastle infrastructure operators have run this arrangement with us for the last two years.

Recent fault calls

  • Dredge, Port of NewcastleAn oil pump control was live when it shouldn't have been. One cable wired straight to power instead of through the contactor. Moved, tested.
  • Heat treatment, Quarry MiningA new gas sensor kept flashing the light tower. Its signal sat just under the bottom of the range at zero. A short filter in the program fixed it.
  • Pharma plant, RutherfordAfter a service, an oven kept overshooting to its cut-off and tripping. Found and sorted on site, in the client's own program.
